Privacy Policy
Effective November 3, 2026
Patchwise is a quilt planning app published by Hayden Reed ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information Patchwise collects, why, and the choices you have. In short: your quilts are yours, we collect only what the app needs to work, and we never sell your information.
The short version
- Your quilts, photos, patterns, and stash are stored on your iPhone.
- Your pattern is sent to an AI only when you use Auto-fill or screenshot import, and only after you give permission.
- We collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to improve the app.
- We don't sell your information, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
- Marketing emails are opt-in only, and you can unsubscribe anytime.
Information stored on your device
The quilts, fabrics, cutting lists, sewing steps, photos, pattern files, stash, supplies, notes, and settings you enter are stored on your iPhone. Reminders you set are scheduled on your iPhone. We can't see this information unless you choose to send it to us (for example, in a support email) or turn on account sync as described below.
AI features (Auto-fill and screenshot import)
When you use Auto-fill, Patchwise sends the pattern PDF or photos you chose for that quilt to Claude, an AI service made by Anthropic, so it can read the fabrics, cuts, supplies, and steps and send them back to the app. Screenshot import works the same way with the screenshots you choose. We ask your permission before the first time anything is sent, and you can turn these features off anytime in Settings → AI Features.
- Files go through our secure server (hosted by Google Firebase) to Anthropic. Our server doesn't keep a copy of your pattern or screenshots after the request is finished.
- Anthropic does not use this content to train its AI models. Anthropic may keep it for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring, as described in Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Your pattern is read only for you. Patterns are often copyrighted, and we never share one person's pattern contents with anyone else.
App account and usage limits
To keep the AI features available and fair for everyone, Patchwise creates an anonymous account ID for your app when you first use them. We store that ID with a count of how many times you've used each AI feature, so we can apply monthly limits. This ID isn't linked to your name or email.
If you sign in to Patchwise (for example, with Sign in with Apple), we'll also store your name and email address as provided by your sign-in method, along with the quilts, photos, patterns, and other data you choose to sync, so they're available on your other devices and backed up. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose "Hide My Email," we receive a private relay address instead of your real email.
Usage statistics and crash reports
We use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to fix problems. These collect information such as which features are used (for example, "a quilt was finished" or "a shopping link was tapped"), your device model and iOS version, an app-instance identifier, and crash details. We use this information only in aggregate to improve Patchwise. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Shopping links
Patchwise may include links to shops where you can buy fabric and supplies. Some are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. We count taps on these links to know which are helpful. When you visit a shop, that shop's own privacy policy applies.
Purchases and subscriptions
Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. We don't receive your payment card details. We receive information about your subscription status (for example, whether Patchwise Plus is active), which may be managed through our subscription service provider.
Marketing emails
We'll only send you quilting tips and Patchwise news if you choose to sign up, for example by checking the newsletter box when you create an account. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. We use an email service provider to send these emails.
Who we share information with
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us run Patchwise, and only as needed for them to do so:
- Google (Firebase): hosting our server, account sign-in, synced data, usage statistics, and crash reports
- Anthropic: reading patterns and screenshots for the AI features you use
- Apple: App Store purchases, Sign in with Apple, and notifications
- Subscription and email service providers: managing subscriptions and sending emails you've signed up for
We may also disclose information if required by law.
Your choices
- Turn off AI features in Settings → AI Features.
- Export your data anytime in Settings → Export My Data.
- Delete your data: deleting the app removes the data stored on your iPhone. If you have an account, you can delete it and its synced data in the app's Settings, or email us and we'll delete it.
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email.
- Notifications and photo access can be changed anytime in the iPhone Settings app.
How long we keep information
We keep account and synced data while your account is active and delete it when you delete your account. Usage counts are kept as long as needed to apply fair-use limits. Analytics and crash data are kept according to Google Firebase's standard retention settings.
Children
Patchwise isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard protections, including encrypted connections and access controls that let each account read only its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and let you know in the app when appropriate.
